Inkslayer’s Journal: It’s Been Awhile

Wow! Too much time has passed since I did an actual check in with the Inkslayer Army. For that I apologize. There are many excuses I can use but that’s what they are: excuses. Over time I’ll explain all that’s been going on over the months, but for now I wanted to come on and say Happy 2018!
Writing Quote Wednesday will still be up and running this year as well as a return to The Witch’s Memory after doing a recap (there’s an ending, I promise LOL) New things are coming. This is going to be an incredible year. Let’s do this!
Until next time have a writeous day!

Inkslayer’s Journal Entry 2

The long trek to publication continues. This week I saw my first sketches for the cover to Beyond Here, and I’m beyond stoked.  This all wasn’t feeling real until I saw them.

With this being the first time I’m seeing sketches I’m debating on pushing back the publication date to the first week of June. When I’m thinking of this I don’t know if it’s my own fears talking or if I’m being rational. I don’t want the cover rushed, but I want it out in the world too…Ugh!

Oh well. Brief update today. Until mext time have a writeous day!

Inkslayer’s Journal Entry 1

Hello Writeous Ones!
Wow, it has been a long time since I’ve written a personal blog. A long, long time. Plenty has happened in that time: my daughter is about to go to college, my girlfriend (my favorite author) is living with me, that whole President Creamsicle thing happened *ugh*. Hmmm…what else, what else?

Oh! I’m finally going to publish my first book!

It’s only taken forever but it’s happening. As of this moment Beyond Here is set to go out into the world on May 31st of 2017. I can’t begin to explain how nervous I am about this…but also relieved.

Getting this story out into the world has been a looooooong process. Towards the end of last year I had a tenative offer from a small press to publish Beyond Here. Of course I was ecstatic about the opportunity. Someone other than me believed in my story! But in that excitement I got lazy. It needed plenty of polish and care that I neglected to give. So 2016 passed and then came February of 2017. By this time I was aware that the offer had fallen through, but with that a fire was ignited in me to take matters into my own hands. I believe in this story. I believe in me. Also it became time to stop talking about it and to make it happen.

The biggest thing to get over was my own fear. Fear held me back for the longest time. Now it’s time to start trusting in myself and living in my possibilities.

Hopefully I’ll be doing more of these mini updates from now on. Until next time have a writeous day!

My Writing Week (March 9th – 15th)

Hey everyone πŸ™‚ It’s that time again. Well for a bit I haven’t had a goal to reach as I’ve been trying to fall back in love with writing. I’m glad to say I am happily in love with writing. If I could have a vow renewal I would πŸ™‚ Would you?
For this week I have set a goal to wrap up Nytemares and Dreamscapes by the end of the week. *fingers crossed* In the meantime I’ve been researching for another project that I need to get started on with my sister. So I’ll be doing multiple projects once again. LOL Busy, busy, busy.
So let me get back to work. Until next time have a writeous day!

My Writing Week (March 2nd – 8th)

It’s that time again πŸ™‚ This prior week was not productive writing wise, and it goes without saying my self-imposed deadline of finishing the first draft of Nytemares and Dreamscapes went bye bye. As this failure loomed over me I began to get discouraged.
Then on Saturday I went to The Festival of Words at my daughter’s high school where different authors spoke, had discussions, and offered advice. One such author was this year’s Newberry Award winner Kwame Alexander. Hearing from him and having him discuss all the trials he went through to get his work in the world renewed me. Seriously, it was like being baptized. Knowing someone as prolific as him had to struggle, was told no, was told he was no good, and that no one would buy his work which later won this award made me feel confident. It’s not going to be easy. It may feel as though it’s all for nothing. Keep going. As he kept repeating that day “You have to push through the no’s to make way for your yes.”
Until next time have a writeous day!

My Writing Week (February 23rd – March 1st)

It’s that time again πŸ™‚ It’s been a looooonnnngggg week. Snow, ice, sleet. All of it resulting in a less than good writing week. My total ripped out at around 3100. Not good.
Because of this I’m not sure if I’m going to reach my deadline of finishing Nytemares and Dreamscapes by the end of the month. Grrr. Hopefully this last week allows me more opportunity to knuckle down and get this done.
How are you guys doing? Are you still meeting your own goals? I hope so πŸ™‚
Until next time have a writeous day!

My Writing Week (February 16th – 22nd)

It’s that time again πŸ™‚ As you know my normal goal is 5000 words a week. Unfortunately that didn’t quite happen this week. I tapped out at around 4100. Not horrible, but not good. My overall goal for this month is to finish Nytemares and Dreamscapes by the end of the month. That means I have around two weeks to finish. Still feels like a long way away but it’s manageable. So let me wrap up so I can get to work. Until next time have a writeous day!

My Writing Week (February 9th – 15th)

It’s that time again πŸ™‚ I’ll keep it fairly short as this is Love Week and everything. LOL I met my goal last week. Woot woot! 5000 new words and the pace to finish this book by the end of this month is looking good.
Now what I said about the week before when couldn’t meet my goal because bad and good things were happening…remember? Well now I can say that for nearly a year my girlfriend, my queen, my everything, has been suffering from stage four cirrhosis of the liver. It blindsided both of us. Well, she finally got put in the list for a donor then three days later they found her a new liver and kidney. It was miraculous.

Much of my life revolves around writing. And writing helped because it was something I had control over when everything felt like it was falling apart. I’m thankful for writing, I’m thankful for organ donors, and thankful for second chances. Make sure you make time for your loved ones. Cherish the time you have.
Until next time have a writeous day!
